You can improve the performance of your triggered emails by adding personalization to them. Personalization adds subscriber-specific details to your content, like their name, the name of products they added to their cart, images of the product they viewed, and more. For more on how personalization works in Attentive, see Add personalization to a message.

You can the following personalization to email templates:

  • Merge tags: Text personalization. Options include subscriber names, product names, and more.
  • Dynamic links: Link personalization. Options include links to subscriber shopping carts, links to the product that triggered the journey, and more.
  • Dynamic images: Image personalization. Includes images of the product that triggered the journey.
  • Dynamic coupons: Offer personalization. You can create a new offer, or use an existing one. For more, see Offers.
  • Dynamic links on buttons and images: Personalization links on buttons and images. Options include links to subscriber shopping carts, links to the product that triggered the journey, and more.

Merge tags

Merge tags let you personalize the copy of your emails by including details like subscriber names, the name of the product that triggered the event, and the price of that product. Available merge tags include:

  • CompanyAddress: The address of your company from the Settings page in Attentive.
  • FirstName, LastName, and FullName: The name of the subscriber in Shopify.
  • ProductName: The name of the product that triggered the event.
  • ProductPrice: The price of the product that triggered the event.

To add merge tags to your template:

  1. Click on a text content block in the content editor where you want to add a merge tag.
  2. Click the Merge tags button.

  3. Click the type of merge tag you want to add to your template. The merge tag you selected is now in your template.

    When subscribers receive an email with a merge tag like {firstName}, they see their first name instead.

Dynamic links

Dynamic links let you personalize links in the copy of your email templates. Dynamic personalization links include:

  • cartLink: A link to the subscriber’s shopping cart
  • companyLink: A link to your website
  • productLink: A link to the product that triggered the journey
  • unsubscribeLink: A link to unsubscribe from email messages from you

To add a dynamic link to an email template:

  1. Click on a content block in the content editor where you want to add a dynamic link.
  2. Click the More button, and select Insert dynamic links.

  3. For Link text, add text for the link.
  4. Click Choose link, and select the type of dynamic link you want to add. 
  5. Click Insert.

Dynamic images

Dynamic images let you include an image of the product that triggered the event in your email templates. Note that if the product that triggered the event does not have an image, the email is not sent at all.

To add a dynamic image to your template:

  1. Drag an image content block into your template.
  2. Click Browse.

  4. Click the menu, and then select {productImage}.

Dynamic links on buttons and images

With dynamic links on buttons and images, you can set both images and buttons to link to customer shopping carts, the product that triggered the journey, and more. Options include:

  • cartLink: A link to the subscriber’s shopping cart.
  • companyLink: The address of your company from the Settings page in Attentive.
  • productLink: A link to the product that triggered the journey.
  • unsubscribeLink: A link to unsubscribe from emails from you.
  • webView: A link to view this email as a webpage.

To add dynamic links to buttons or images:

  1. Click on the image or button you want to add a dynamic link to.

  3. For Link text, add the text that you want to appear when subscribers hover over the button or image.
